Embark Studios dropped some exciting hints about the future of ARC Raiders in a fresh interview, signaling that fans won't have to wait much longer for fresh content. With the holiday slowdown behind them and the team back in the office for 2026, the studio is gearing up to expand the game's map roster significantly this year.

Design lead Virgil Watkins sat down with GamesRadar to discuss the evolution of ARC Raiders, putting special emphasis on how new maps shape player experiences far beyond simple reskins. He explained that each addition brings unique environments, altered enemy behaviors, fresh loot pools, new blueprints, and entirely different strategic decisions.

The most recent map, Stella Montis, arrived several weeks back as a compact, tight-quarters arena built around intense PvP skirmishes. While it scratched an itch for close-range combat lovers, the community has been vocal about wanting even more variety to keep raids feeling dynamic.

Watkins highlighted the thoughtful design philosophy behind every new zone. He told GamesRadar: "How do we keep – not necessarily escalating all the time, but – giving you a new way of play, a new way to approach, making you make different decisions with things you’ve already been using in one context, and trying to use it in a different way in another context? And providing more options for the player, like, can zip lines now be used in this way? Or now I have a far greater user for things like mines and noise makers because of the way this level is and plays, things like that."

The biggest reveal came when he confirmed multiple maps are on the way throughout 2026. "There are going to be multiple maps coming this year, and I think it’s going to be across a spectrum of size to try to facilitate different types of gameplay. So you might see some that are smaller, and you might see some that are even grander than what we’ve got now."

This spectrum approach builds nicely on the existing lineup. Players already enjoy swinging between the sprawling openness of Blue Gate and Spaceport and the claustrophobic tension of Stella Montis, so more extremes in scale and style should please everyone from lone wolves to squad tacticians.

On the technical side, Watkins walked through the careful balancing that goes into each map. Everything from spawn rates and travel times to drone density, loot distribution, and zone collapse pacing gets scrutinized to maintain fair and fun encounters.

An official ARC Raiders roadmap update is expected soon, which should give clearer timelines and perhaps sneak peeks at these incoming locations.
