Bungie, the PlayStation-owned studio, has announced another round of significant layoffs, cutting approximately 220 jobs. This follows a previous reduction of around 100 roles last year, bringing the total number of layoffs to roughly 17 percent of its workforce.

In addition to these job cuts, Bungie is undergoing substantial organizational changes. Despite having enjoyed a high degree of autonomy within PlayStation, recent reports suggest that the studio’s independent subsidiary status within Sony might be at risk. This appears to be coming to fruition, as Bungie CEO Pete Parsons announced that the studio will be "deepening our integration with Sony Interactive Entertainment."

As part of this integration, around 155 roles (approximately 12 percent of Bungie’s workforce) will transition to PlayStation over the coming quarters. Furthermore, 40 positions will be "spun off" into a new PlayStation studio tasked with developing one of Bungie's "incubation projects."

Amid these developments, Parsons has faced criticism, including calls for his resignation, particularly following reports of his personal spending. It has been noted that Parsons has spent over $2 million on classic cars and motorcycles through the auction site Bring A Trailer, with some of these purchases occurring around the time of Bungie's major layoffs.
