China appears to have reevaluated its controversial proposed regulations that targeted monetization and engagement tactics in the gaming industry.
The draft of these proposals, initially published on the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) website in December, has now been taken down. As previously reported, the suggested regulations included bans on commonly used microtransactions and incentive-based rewards, such as daily log-in rewards and incentives for repeat or first-time spenders.
Following the release of the draft, share prices for major China-based gaming companies, including Tencent and NetEase, experienced significant declines.
