ENCE joins to the list of defunct esports teams.
The board of ENCE confirmed the decision on 26 October, captioned “End of an era.”
“After 13 years, the Board of Directors of ENCE eSports Oy has made the difficult decision to file for bankruptcy,” the statement read, thanking players, staff and partners before turning to supporters: “And most importantly, to our fans: thank you for standing with us through every victory and defeat. None of this would have been possible without you.” It signed off with GG.
The post passed 980,000 views within hours, many shared their sadness.
The money
ENCE gave no reason, in its post but it is apparent. Iltalehti reported losses exceeding €1.6 million over the past two years.
The issue was highlighted in March, when the organisation benched its entire international CS2 roster and coaching staff to rebuild around Finnish talent, stating that competing at the top of international Counter-Strike had become too difficult for a club its size.
The final roster
teme, millert, Schwarz, joeski and HENU, coached by allu, who returned in June replacing Academy coach George “Whitey” White. General manager Eemeli “Woomera” Ikonen said then that the young roster would “benefit tremendously from the experience, knowledge, and leadership that allu brings.”
The lineup reached the grand final of Elisa Breakout Series 1 at Assembly Summer 2026, losing 2-0 to BC.Game.
ENCE sat 103rd on the global VRS and hadn’t appeared at a top-tier event since September 2024. Which was an issue.
Nothing has been said about what happens to player contracts or staff.
What they were
Founded in 2013 as a local Finnish organisation, ENCE was a success story.
The 2019 all-Finnish lineup led by Aleksib reached the IEM Katowice Major final and produced EZ4ENCE, a chant and a song that spread far beyond the fanbase.
IEM Dallas 2023 with Snappi’s international roster. Elisa Masters Espoo 2024, beating HEROIC for around 100,000 dollars, it was their last dance.
Beyond Counter-Strike, Joona “Serral” Sotala became the first non-Korean StarCraft II world champion in 2018 while competing for ENCE, which remains one of the more significant individual achievements any esports organisation has been attached to.
Two days before the announcement, allu and HENU were meeting fans at a POWER store in Tammisto.
