After more than eight years in beta, Escape from Tarkov is finally making its way to Steam. The announcement from developer Battlestate Games, made earlier today, marks a monumental shift for the hardcore survival shooter, which has previously only been available through its proprietary launcher and storefront. While the game isn't fully available on Steam just yet, players can now wishlist Escape from Tarkov on the platform in anticipation of its full release later this year.
The game’s Steam debut is especially significant as it signals a broader push to introduce Escape from Tarkov to a larger audience, just ahead of its highly anticipated 1.0 release scheduled for November 15. However, the transition to Steam comes with a major caveat for players who have already purchased the game through Battlestate's launcher.

Existing Players Will Need to Buy the Steam Version
For those who have already bought Escape from Tarkov directly from Battlestate Games, the Steam version will not be automatically available. In a Steam FAQ that was published alongside the game’s Steam page, Battlestate Games confirmed that existing players must purchase the game on Steam to play it on Valve’s platform.
While players can link their Battlestate account to the Steam version, the game will not carry over automatically for those who purchased it elsewhere. However, by linking accounts, players will be able to retain their previous progress, profile, and character data.
Battlestate Account Still Required
One major detail that remains unchanged is the requirement for a Battlestate account. Whether you're a new player or someone who has already been playing Escape from Tarkov via Battlestate's launcher, you'll need to have an active Battlestate account to play the game on Steam. This account will be used to sync player progress, character data, and in-game purchases across both platforms.
At this time, Escape from Tarkov is only available for wishlisting on Steam. There’s no official release date for the Steam version just yet, but it’s expected to launch alongside the game’s full 1.0 release in mid-November. Until then, fans can only prepare by adding the game to their Steam wishlist and await further details from Battlestate Games.
