Giant Bomb, the popular video game website and video outlet, is returning to independent ownership under the leadership of two of its longtime staffers, Jeff Bakalar and Jeff Grubb. The duo has officially acquired the site from Fandom, which had owned the brand since 2022.

While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the move marks a significant shift in the site's trajectory following a turbulent period. Earlier this month, Fandom revealed that Giant Bomb was undergoing a "strategic reset" after internal disagreements over new content guidelines led to the departure of several staff members. The changes prompted vocal criticism from the gaming community, particularly on platforms like BlueSky.

With full ownership now transferred to Bakalar and Grubb, the site will be independently operated and financially supported by its audience. In a joint statement, the pair emphasized the community-driven future of Giant Bomb.

“Giant Bomb is now owned by the people who make Giant Bomb, and it would not have been possible without the speedy efforts of Fandom and our mutual agreement on what's best for fans and creators,” said Bakalar and Grubb.

“The future of Giant Bomb is now in the hands of our supporting community, who have always had our backs no matter what. We'll have a lot more to say about what this looks like soon, but for now, everyone can trust that all the support we receive goes directly to this team.”

Fandom, which also owns sites like GameSpot, described the sale as a "strategic decision" intended to return the brand to its original independent spirit.

“We’re confident Giant Bomb is in good hands and its legacy will live on with Jeff and Jeff,” Fandom said in a statement.
