Drew Harrison, a senior artist on the highly anticipated Ghost of Yotei project, has reportedly been fired from Sucker Punch Productions following a controversial joke she made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The incident, which unfolded on social media, has sparked significant backlash and calls for boycotts of the game, as well as renewed scrutiny over employee conduct and social media posts. Harrison wrote “I hope the shooter’s name is Mario so that Luigi knows his bro got his back,”
Harrison, who had worked as a character look dev and texture artist for Sucker Punch for over a decade, posted a series of tweets on X (formerly Twitter) on September 10, 2025, in which she made light of Kirk’s assassination. The posts, which have since been deleted, quickly gained attention, leading to a wave of negative reactions from social media users. Prominent figures such as Mark "Grummz" Kern called for a boycott of Ghost of Yotei, as well as for Harrison to be removed from the project.
According to Harrison, this backlash soon escalated into a harassment campaign, which included numerous anonymous phone calls. She publicly shared her experience on X, claiming she was subjected to intense online pressure after her posts went viral.
The Aftermath: Harassment and Dismissal
Less than 24 hours after the tweets were posted, Harrison announced on September 12 that she had been fired from Sucker Punch Productions. In her statement on X, Harrison expressed defiance, writing, "If standing up against fascism is what cost me my dream job I held for 10 years, I would do it again 100x stronger."
Sony Interactive Entertainment, the parent company of Sucker Punch Productions, confirmed the dismissal to Kotaku, with a spokesperson saying, “Drew Harrison is no longer an employee of Sucker Punch Productions.” The statement left little room for ambiguity, affirming that the artist had parted ways with the studio in the wake of the controversy.
