The Global Gaming League (GGL), an entertainment-focused esports competition spotlighting celebrity involvement, is set to make its debut with a powerful lineup of partners and personalities. The league has secured licensing agreements with six leading game publishers ahead of its inaugural season, SZN Zero, which kicks off August 23 at The Campus by Vū in Las Vegas.
Game publishers Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Capcom, EA, Tetris, and Ubisoft have all signed on to provide titles for the league’s competition. Each of the four chosen game titles for the season will represent a different genre, including sports, fighting games, racing, shooters, and classics — signaling a commitment to diversity in gameplay that appeals to a wide audience.
Described as “the NFL meets WWE,” the GGL blends esports with the theatrics of sports entertainment, leaning heavily on celebrity-driven storytelling. Teams of four, each owned and managed by public figures, will face off in a series of matches that are designed as much for spectacle as for competition.
Among the celebrity participants are rap icon and league strategist Faheem ‘T-Pain’ Rashad Najm, TikTok creator Bryce Hall, former professional wrestler Ric Flair, and hip-hop legend Flavor Flav. T-Pain is also serving as the league’s Executive Director of Strategy, playing a central role in shaping its creative direction.
The league has already raised $10 million earlier this year to fund operations and launch the GGL Academy.
GGL Founder and CEO Clinton Sparks emphasized the league’s broad appeal and inclusive vision. “Everyone gets excited and understands the impact GGL will have after I explain the vision,” Sparks said in a statement. “Gamers come in all ages and there hasn’t been anything that brings games and gamers from different generations together, until now.”
According to the league, over 250,000 players have signed up to participate in SZN Zero, vying for a chance to compete on celebrity-owned teams and tap into the global reach of their star captains.
Sparks sees GGL as more than a competitive platform; he views it as a cultural movement. “With these partnerships, we are able to bring game titles from different genres and eras that attract everyone to the same place,” he added. “This League will uplift the whole industry, showcasing every aspect of the gaming world from publishers, to those that make the actual hardware, to sponsors, and most importantly, to the gamers among us, everywhere.”
