The Halo Championship Series (HCS) has confirmed it will retire Halo Infinite from official competitive play at the end of the 2025 season, marking the end of a multi-year esports run for the franchise’s free-to-play arena shooter.

The announcement, made on Monday, signals a significant transition for the competitive Halo community. The 2025 Halo World Championship will serve as the final HCS-sanctioned event featuring Halo Infinite, concluding an era that began with the title’s launch in 2021. While official circuit support will cease, 343 Industries has stated it will continue to back the game's tournament scene in 2026 through community-driven efforts and smaller-scale events.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the community for making HCS events a place where all Halo fans feel welcome,” said Tahir ‘Tashi’ Hasandjekic, Halo’s Director of Competitive Engagement. “It’s been more than just competition—it’s been about connection, growth, and shared passion. These experiences have shaped both us as a studio and the games we build.”

Although HCS will not be returning with a new Halo title in 2026, 343 Industries has confirmed it will still assist in organizing non-HCS LAN and online tournaments to keep grassroots competition alive. The studio emphasized its commitment to the community and hinted that light competition will continue through partner-supported initiatives outside the core HCS structure.

In the same announcement, the studio teased that it is “turning its focus toward the next era of Halo.” While no official details have been released, industry speculation suggests a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved could be in development, possibly laying the groundwork for the next competitive iteration of the franchise.
