The first game allowed players to explore a vast open world as a young wizard or witch, but there was one notable absence: multiplayer. If the latest hints are to be believed, the sequel might address that gap, bringing an online multiplayer experience to the Wizarding World.

A recent job posting for a Senior Software Engineer at Avalanche Studios—the developers behind Hogwarts Legacy, appears to confirm that an online multiplayer RPG is in the works. According to Gamerant, the listing mentions the engineer will join the team “behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy” and work on an “online multiplayer RPG.”

The job description goes further, outlining responsibilities such as “designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure backend services,” which include player data persistence, matchmaking, lobbies, and server infrastructure, key elements for any online multiplayer game.

While this strongly hints that Hogwarts Legacy 2 might feature multiplayer elements, several questions remain unanswered. For one, the listing doesn’t specifically name Hogwarts Legacy 2, and Avalanche is known to be working on other projects.
