Itch.io has introduced a new requirement for creators to disclose if their work uses generative AI. In a recent post, the platform explained that developers will now need to specify which parts of their projects involve AI, such as graphics, sound, text, dialogue, or code, through a "generative AI disclosure" field.
Games that include AI-generated elements will be tagged with an "AI Generated" label, with additional tags specifying which aspects use AI, like "AI Generated Graphics" or "AI Generated Sounds." Titles without AI will be marked as "No AI."

The platform stated that this new category is designed to "ensure buyers are aware of the origins of the material they are obtaining."
Creators will be given a "grace period" to update their pages with the required disclosures. Afterward, user reports will help Itch.io identify creators who have not complied. A bulk tagging tool has been introduced to streamline the process of labeling assets.
Itch.io also clarified that "Assets comprised of generative AI (even if modified afterwards) that are not tagged will no longer be eligible for indexing on our browse pages."
