Hideo Kojima took the stage at the Disney+ Originals Asia Pacific preview on Thursday to announce Death Stranding Isolations (working title), an original animated series based on his critically acclaimed video game franchise. The series is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
Appearing alongside series director Sano Takayuki at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Kojima unveiled the new project, marking Kojima Productions' first collaboration with a major global streaming platform. The event also showcased new concept art by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work as character designer on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.
Kojima will serve as executive producer for the series, which promises an entirely original story set within the Death Stranding universe, separate from the games’ plotlines. The animated series will follow a young man and woman on their journey, presented in traditional 2D hand-drawn animation. Japan’s E&H production studio will handle the animation.
The original Death Stranding PlayStation game launched in 2019 and has attracted over 20 million players globally. The franchise expanded in 2023 with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which launched exclusively on PlayStation 5.
