Lego acquires Offroad Games. Terms weren't disclosed, and staff have already taken up roles at Lego Digital Play.
CEO Geoffrey Gilles stated "We started this company 19 months ago, and since then we've worked tirelessly to build a game studio with the right culture, skills and energy to develop a new generation of mobile games. A huge thank you to the Offroad team. You're all superstars."
He stated "the people who believed in us when we spun out of Space Ape Games, the people who made the journey enjoyable through all its ups and downs, and everyone at Lego Digital Play for making us feel incredibly welcome."
What Lego actually bought
Chrome Valley Customs, a car restoration and puzzle game that has generated around 44 million USD in in-app purchases from over 17 million installs. It continues under the Offroad Games label for now.
The studio also handles Fastlane: Road to Revenge, has been reviving Space Ape's cancelled racer Go Race: Super Karts, and was working on an unannounced IP. It started with roughly ten people.
The chain of ownership
Supercell acquired the majority of Space Ape in 2025, and the deal spun Offroad out with the car games. The same wave produced NextBeat, which took BeatStar and was later acquired by Duolingo. Space Ape became Supercell London, and all its original founders left.
One of them, John Earner, is now an adviser at Lego Digital Play.
So a studio carved out of Space Ape has been bought by a company advised by Space Ape's co-founder, nineteen months later. Nobody has suggested anything improper, and mobile gaming in London is a small world, but it's a tidy loop.
Lego Digital Play
Lego's mobile gaming arm, formed in early 2025 and based in London, led by president Aaron Loeb, a 30-year veteran whose CV includes Scopely, FoxNext Games and EA.
