A new web app, Ludocene, has launched following a successful Kickstarter campaign, offering a fresh spin on game discovery by mimicking the format of a dating app.
Created by freelance video game journalist Andy Robertson, Ludocene invites users to "start a new run" and interact with virtual Game cards, each representing a different title—from indie gems to big-budget AAA releases. The concept is simple: swipe-style interactions help the app learn your preferences and build a personalised deck of game recommendations.
Users can choose from three starter packs to kick things off—prioritising either curated staff picks, newly released titles, or hidden discoveries. From there, the experience is shaped by how users respond to the games. Cards can be pinned to play later, or swiped based on whether a player liked or disliked a game they’ve already tried.
As more feedback is given, Ludocene refines its suggestions, crafting a tailored list of recommendations.
In addition to games, the platform features Expert cards—profiles of streamers, developers, journalists, and podcasters who each contribute their own curated lists. Choosing to follow one of these experts adds their preferences into the recommendation algorithm.
Described as a “deck-builder that recommends new games to you based on your favourites,” Ludocene is now live and free to use via its website.
