Bungie has finished its Closed Technical Test for Marathon, and now a new chance for players to try the game is coming soon. Even though this is news, there is still no clear release date for the full game. Earlier reports said that Sony expects Marathon to come out by March 2026, but we still do not know exactly when before that date it will launch.
The official Marathon website now shows that the next test will be the Marathon December Community Playtest, which will happen in December 2025. Anyone who signs up and gets approved can try a fresh version of the extraction shooter. The playtest will work on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XS, and Steam.
Bungie shared the schedule for the event, saying, "The Marathon December Community Playtest will run from December 12th to the 15th from 2PM PT to 8PM PT each day." Just like before, the playtest has a strict NDA, meaning players are not allowed to share videos or talk much about what they saw. It is only open to people living in North America, so players in other places will need to wait. That is really dissapointing for many fans.
Some leaks from the earlier Closed Test were positive, and players seemed hopeful about the game’s future. Still, Bungie needs to announce the release date soon so fans are not confused. The studio also has to be ready to compete with other big extraction shooters like ARC Raiders and Escape From Tarkov. Marathon surely has a lot of work ahead.
