According to recent reports, Microsoft is planning to change its approach to releasing Call of Duty titles later this year. The company intends to make the next installment in the series available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Speculation about Call of Duty's inclusion on Xbox Game Pass has been ongoing since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in October 2023.

If this report is accurate, Microsoft appears to be swiftly integrating its newly acquired IP into its popular streaming service. This move could boost subscriptions to Xbox Game Pass, following previous efforts such as offering early access to Bethesda's Starfield, which proved highly successful in 2023.

The upcoming Call of Duty title for this year has yet to be officially announced, but speculation suggests it will be a new addition to the Black Ops series, set in the early 1990s during the Gulf War. Microsoft plans to provide more information about the game next month, with a dedicated hour-long presentation scheduled after its main Xbox Showcase event on June 9th.
