Unity has announced Matthew Bromberg as its new CEO, succeeding interim CEO Jim Whitehurst, effective May 15, 2024. Whitehurst will transition to the executive chair of Unity's board, while former chair Roelof Botha assumes the role of independent director.
According to the release, Bromberg brings over twenty years of industry expertise, having served as COO at Zynga from August 2016 to April 2022. He previously worked on companies such as Electronic Arts, including as group general manager for BioWare and SVP of strategy and operations for EA Mobile.
He stated "I am thrilled to join Unity as it embraces its next chapter, I look forward to working with [Whitehurst], the board, and the incredible people of Unity to provide the best integrated platform for creators to bring great games and experiences to their audiences globally while also helping accelerate the company's revenue growth and profitability."
The previous CEO of Unity John Riccitiello announced his retirement following the backlash after the changes to Unity fees. The game engine was boycotted by many studios and received criticism for its greed. The company also laid off 25% of its work force recently. The company had to withdraw its fee policy following the backlash from the community.
