Sony has announced a price hike for the base model of the PlayStation 5 across several major regions, citing ongoing economic pressures. The changes are effective immediately and affect the digital edition of the console in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with further increases planned across the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In a blog post published today, Isabelle Tomatis, SIE’s Vice President of Global Marketing, explained the rationale behind the decision.

“With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price of the PS5 console in select markets,” she wrote.

New Regional Pricing Breakdown Europe & UK:

  • PS5 Digital Edition: Now priced at €499.99 / £429.99
  • PS5 Standard (Disc Drive): No change in pricing
  • Standalone PS5 Disc Drive: Decreased to €79.99 / £69.99

Australia & New Zealand:

  • PS5 Digital Edition: AUD $749.95 / NZD $859.95
  • PS5 Standard (Disc Drive): AUD $829.95 / NZD $949.95
  • Standalone PS5 Disc Drive: AUD $124.95 / NZD $139.95

Notably, the PS5 Pro remains untouched by these pricing adjustments.
