Following its acquisition by Sega, Rovio has shut down Studio Lumi. According to reports, 16 employees have lost their jobs, and work on an undisclosed project has been halted. Rovio has assured that some of the personnel, including SVP of brand strategy Ben Mattes, will maintain their roles. Studio Lumi, one of Rovio's two Montreal-based developers specializing in console and PC games, has been affected by the closure, while Studio Six remains unaffected by this decision.
"A decision like this is never taken lightly, but it is in line with following Rovio's strategy of strengthening our focus on our core strengths in mobile," the mobile firm said in a statement.
"With the recent acquisition by Sega, we can benefit from their decades of expertise outside of mobile to achieve the goal of bringing the Angry Birds brand also to players outside mobile."
