TaleMonster Games, a rising name in the casual mobile gaming space, has secured $7 million in a seed funding round aimed at disrupting the genre's well-worn formula. The round was led by General Catalyst and included contributions from a16z Speedrun, Arcadia Gaming Partners, and Ludus Ventures.

Founded by industry veterans with roots at Peak Games — the studio behind hit titles Toy Blast and Toon Blast — TaleMonster is looking to challenge the status quo of casual gaming. CEO Irem Sumer believes the market has grown stale and overly formulaic.

Speaking to VentureBeat, Sumer explained the studio’s mission: “The casual game market has become too predictable, too optimised, and not enough fun.” TaleMonster believes the casual gaming audience has evolved over the past decade and now demands more engaging and challenging experiences. “The goal,” Sumer noted, “is to build games that match this updated audience profile.”

TaleMonster’s debut title, Match Valley, is already available on both Android and iOS, and has surpassed 5,000 downloads on Google Play. The game builds on the match-3 puzzle format, but with a fresh take designed to offer greater depth and replayability.

The $7 million investment will be used to support Match Valley's continued development while also funding the creation of new titles. The studio plans to expand its team and invest in building reusable development systems and streamlined content delivery pipelines.
