It is coming way more expensive this year.
The 25th anniversary Xbox console arrives 27 November at 899.99 euros in Europe, with billbil-kun estimating 899.99 USD in US, though only the European figure has actually been leaked.
The package will include the 1TB console with disc drive plus the matching Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition, so it isn't a bare console at that price.
The comparison
A standard 1TB Series X with disc drive currently costs 799.99 euros in Europe, after Microsoft's recent price increase. The anniversary edition is 100 euros on top of that.
At 899.99 it also matches the European PS5 Pro, which ships with 2TB of storage and no disc drive. Different trade-offs, but the same number.
Specs are identical to the standard Series X as well. What you're paying the premium for is a translucent OG Green enclosure modelled on the 2001 original, an illuminated green X, 25th anniversary branding, and the matching controller. That is it.
Announced in June, priced by datamining
Microsoft revealed the X25 at the Xbox Games Showcase in June without pricing. Matt Booty and Asha Sharma then told the audience every attendee would receive one free.
Dealabs finds this material through JSON sniffing, pulling data from retail back ends before announcements go live, and billbil-kun has a long accuracy record on hardware and software pricing. That said, Microsoft has confirmed nothing, and an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks, possibly around Gamescom.
Black Friday, at a premium
Historically, billbil-kun's late-November Xbox leaks have been about how far the price is falling. This year that is not going to be the case.
Xbox hardware revenue dropped 13% last quarter, the European price increase landed weeks ago on component costs, and the anniversary arrives after 3,200 job cuts. Charging 100 euros over an already-raised price for a paint job is going to read differently depending on how much you care about the paint job.
Limited edition means limited stock, so it will be sold out soon.
