Unity 6 to Leave China

Unity 6 has officially been removed from sale across mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, with the company replacing it with a new localized version called Tuanjie. This move marks a significant shift in Unity's strategy for the Chinese market, as the company works to better align its offerings with the specific needs of developers in the region.

Unity China issued a statement regarding the decision.Unity explained:

"Unity 6 and subsequent versions will no longer be provided to Chinese users as part of an adjustment aimed at ensuring that developers can obtain game engine services that are more in line with the needs of the Chinese market."

Unity further clarified that while Unity 6 would no longer be available, it would continue to enhance and improve some of the features of the engine to better serve the Chinese user base. The company outlined:

"In 2025, Unity Engine will continue to upgrade and improve some features of Unity 6, and improve related rendering functions to meet the needs of Chinese users."

Unity’s decision to release Tuanjie comes after a series of successful localized services in various fields, such as small game solutions, OpenHarmony solutions, and HMI car solutions, which the company believes accurately meet the specific demands of the Chinese market.

The company also emphasized its commitment to supporting local developers. Unity China promised to focus on optimizing pricing strategies for small and medium-sized development teams and creating more accessible licensing solutions. The company noted that it aims to lower the barriers for entry and foster greater creative freedom among developers.
