|content=Embark Studios’ long-awaited extraction shooter ARC Raiders has made an explosive debut, quickly climbing the charts and winning over players—at least at first glance. According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 264,673 concurrent players on launch day and currently holds nearly 90% positive reviews on Steam. It has also surged to the No. 1 spot on Steam’s global top sellers list, with its Deluxe Edition upgrade sitting comfortably at No. 14.

Despite the promising start and a relatively modest $40 price tag, controversy has quickly emerged around the game’s in-game shop. Many players are criticizing ARC Raiders’ cosmetic pricing, which some argue feels more suited to a free-to-play title than a premium game.

One of the most expensive bundles in the store costs 2,400 Raider Tokens—roughly $20. While smaller bundles and individual items are available, most character outfits are priced between 1,150 and 1,400 Tokens, meaning players could spend nearly half the game’s cost on a single skin.

The community hasn’t taken this lightly. As one player wrote on Reddit:

“You’re really not getting that much for essentially spending half the game’s price… I really hate this direction and how most devs are embracing it these days. A skin shouldn’t be 50% or more of the game’s price.”

Critics have also compared ARC Raiders’ pricing to THE FINALS, another title from Embark Studios. In THE FINALS, a free-to-play shooter, most outfit bundles range from 1,600 to 2,200 Multibucks, with 2,400 Multibucks also equivalent to about $20. However, those bundles typically include several mix-and-match cosmetic pieces—making the pricing feel more justified.
