|content=Netflix’s long in development Assassin’s Creed live action series is continuing to gain momentum, with a major creative hire now confirmed. A new report has revealed that Johan Renck, the acclaimed director behind HBO’s Chernobyl, has been selected to direct the upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft’s long running video game franchise.

According to Variety, Renck will helm the Netflix Assassin’s Creed series, adding significant prestige to the project. The Swedish filmmaker is best known for directing the critically acclaimed Chernobyl miniseries, but his television resume also includes The Last Panther and episodes of major shows such as Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Vikings, and Bates Motel.

In addition to Renck’s involvement, the report confirms that Roberto Patino and David Wiener will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers on the series.
