Facing unexpected backlash, the company stated that they hadn't anticipated the huge backlash to restricting of access to its PvE mode solely to purchasers of the $250 collector's edition. 

Initially, BattleState Games denied that the new mode constituted DLC and attempted to navigate through semantics, a strategy that didn't fare well with the community.
