Han ‘SangJoon’ Sang-joon, one of Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) most successful players, has announced his retirement from the competitive esports scene, bringing an end to his four-year career. The South Korean player revealed that his decision to step away from pro play was primarily due to mandatory military service in South Korea, a duty all male citizens must complete.

SangJoon’s career in the ALGS has been marked by impressive achievements, with his time in the scene beginning in 2021. The 2024 ALGS Split 1 Playoffs were arguably the highlight of his career, where he led the REJECT team to victory, clinching the championship and a $300,000 prize. His performance during the tournament earned him the MVP title, cementing his place as one of the best in the game.

Despite an underwhelming start in the Group Stage, placing fifth, REJECT surged ahead in the Finals, with SangJoon playing a pivotal role in their climb to the top. The team dominated games two and eight, ultimately securing the championship with 86 points.

In 2025, SangJoon’s career continued to shine as he helped Crazy Raccoon reach eighth place in the ALGS APAC North Split 1 Pro League. Although the team didn’t make it past the Mid-Season Playoffs, finishing 32nd, their strong performance still earned them a solid $4,500 prize.

"It’s Really Sad That I Won’t Be Able to See You All"

In his announcement, SangJoon shared a heartfelt message with his fans. While this wasn’t the first time he had hinted at retirement, he made it clear that this time, his departure was final. In a translated message, he said, “I’ve said many times that I’m retiring, but this time it’s true, so I’m really sad that I won’t be able to see you all.” He continued, “Thanks for your support. I was able to go to the playoffs and win, which is really great. Thank you for everything!”

The announcement has left fans saddened, with many expressing their appreciation for the talented player’s contributions to the Apex Legends esports scene.
