OpTic Texas emerged as the 2025 Call of Duty League (CDL) champions on Sunday after defeating the Vancouver Surge 5-3 in a grueling best-of-nine grand final. The title match, held in Kitchener, Ontario, capped off an electrifying weekend and awarded OpTic the $800,000 top prize from a $2 million prize pool.

Despite finishing seventh in the regular season, OpTic Gaming Texas blazed through the postseason, stringing together a flawless run in the winners bracket with consecutive 3-0 victories over Atlanta FaZe, Toronto Ultra, and Boston Breach. Their commanding playoff form carried into the finals, where they never trailed against the Surge.

Mason “Mercules” Ramsay, a standout throughout the tournament, was named MVP for his performance across the playoffs and in the grand final, where OpTic controlled the pace and delivered in clutch moments.

The series opened with OpTic setting the tone with a 250-151 win on Hacienda Hardpoint. Vancouver responded in emphatic fashion, blanking OpTic 6-0 on Dealership Search and Destroy to tie the series 1-1. The teams continued to trade blows, with Texas taking Protocol Control 3-2 and Vault Hardpoint 250-230 before Vancouver equalized once again with narrow wins on Protocol Search and Destroy (6-5) and Hacienda Control (3-2).

From there, OpTic shifted into high gear. A clinical 6-2 showing on Hacienda Search and Destroy was followed by a 250-215 finish on Rewind Hardpoint, sealing the series and championship for the Texas-based squad.

“We just locked in and never looked back,” said Ramsay post-match. “This team came alive at the right time. We earned every second of this run.”

Vancouver Surge, who entered the playoffs as the fourth seed, took a much tougher route to the final. After a 3-1 loss to the Miami Heretics dropped them into the elimination bracket, they fought through a grueling Saturday, taking down Toronto Ultra (3-0), avenging their earlier loss to Miami (3-2), and edging out Boston Breach (3-2) to earn their spot in the championship series.
