Subway Surfers is finally adding a long-requested feature: multiplayer competition. In a surprising but exciting crossover, SYBO has partnered with Brawl Stars to launch the game's first-ever competitive mode, titled Showdown.
The new mode pits up to six players against each other in real-time races across a Brawl Stars-themed map. Staying true to Subway Surfers’ core mechanics, players must dodge obstacles and collect boosts — but this time, they're not just running from the Inspector; they’re racing to be the first to cross the finish line.
What sets Showdown apart is the addition of power-ups that let players temporarily transform into one of six iconic Brawl Stars characters: Dynamike, Piper, El Primo, Max, Poco, and Spike. Each transformation comes with its own unique ability, giving racers new ways to gain an edge during the heat of competition.
Celia Zimmermann, Head of Player Experience at SYBO, acknowledged the significance of the update:
“A competitive game mode within Subway Surfers has been one of the most requested features from our community over the last 13 years,” she said. “We’re excited to bring this collaboration to life and incorporate elements from Brawl Stars’ beloved multiplayer-style gameplay into Subway Surfers for the very first time.”
The collaboration isn’t a one-way street. Brawl Stars is also diving into endless runner territory with Subway Run, a new mode that brings Subway Surfers-inspired gameplay to Supercell’s hit multiplayer game. In this 10-player race, participants must sprint through checkpoints and be the first to reach the finish line. Players can also eliminate opponents for a brief speed boost, adding a combat twist to the race.
