Epic Games has detailed its plans for the 2026 Fortnite Championship Series, confirming the return of Duos play, the addition of two LAN events, and a prize pool that exceeds 10 million USD. The competitive year begins on January 31 with the FNCS Trial, a brief event that sorts players into Divisions based on performance. Throughout Chapter Seven, duos will compete in Divisional Cups to climb toward Division 1, which serves as the gateway to qualifying for one of the three Majors in the circuit.
Each Major will follow a four-stage format consisting of a Play-In Stage, Heat Stage, Last Chance Qualifier, and the Major Finals.
The Play-In Stage opens every Major and unfolds over two days. At the end of this phase, the top 150 duos in Europe and North America Central and the top 100 duos in all other regions will move on to the Heat Stage.
The Heat Stage is structured with three heats in Europe and North America Central and two heats in the remaining regions. Winning a match outright secures automatic entry into the Major Finals. Beyond that, each heat will send the top 10 duos from Europe and North America Central and the top 18 duos from other regions to the Finals.
Teams that miss out can still progress through the Last Chance Qualifier. Any duo that has participated in a Divisional Cup during Chapter Seven is eligible. The top 50 duos in each region advance to the Last Chance Lobby, where earning a Victory Royale is the single requirement to reach the Major Finals.
The Major Finals span two days and consist of 12 matches. Regional winners earn their portion of the prize pool and will wield the Axe of Champions 3.0 throughout the next Battle Royale season.
Top duos from the Major 1 Finals will also receive invitations to the FNCS Major 1 Summit, a LAN event scheduled for May 2026 with a one million USD prize pool.
