Microsoft has officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a fully remastered version of the original 2006 title—now coming to PlayStation for the first time. The game will launch on August 26, 2025, priced at $39.99, and will be available on Xbox Series X S, PlayStation 5, PC, and through Xbox Game Pass. It will also support Xbox Cloud Gaming on compatible devices.
Developed by The Coalition in collaboration with Disbelief and Sumo Interactive, Gears of War: Reloaded has been rebuilt “from the ground up” to modernize the fan-favorite third-person shooter. The remaster promises to stay true to the original while delivering a significant visual and performance overhaul.
“It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together,” said The Coalition studio head Mike Crump. “With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.”
The game will offer a wide range of visual and technical upgrades, including 4K resolution, up to 120 FPS in multiplayer, and support for cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Notably, a Microsoft Account is not required to play, though it will be needed for full cross-platform functionality such as cross-progression.
Other advanced features include HDR support, Dolby Vision, 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, and 3D Spatial Audio. The remaster will also include 4K assets, completely redone textures, variable refresh rate, improved shadows and reflections, upgraded anti-aliasing via super resolution, and seamless gameplay with no loading screens during the campaign.
While the campaign will be capped at 60 FPS, the multiplayer mode will allow players to push performance to the full 120 FPS, offering a smoother and more competitive experience.
