With Chapter 7 kicking off, the game dove into some classic vibes, but not everyone's thrilled about the pace of new stuff. Ted Timmins, who's the design director over at Epic Games for Fortnite, jumped into the conversation recently after seeing feedback from big names like SypherPK.
In his post on X, Timmins acknowledged that players are hungry for more variety in the game. He explained that the team took a deliberate step back with Season 1, aiming to simplify things and zero in on the core Battle Royale experience. "There was always a risk that by simplifying the game, focusing on Battle Royale and taking a “back to basics” approach to create a ‘reset’ moment for Season 1 - that it may start to feel a little too similar to chapters past," he wrote. It's a fair point, especially since Fortnite's success comes from blending wild collaborations with solid gameplay.
Timmins teased some stuff on the horizon to shake things up. For February, he hinted at a "fun update" that could bring back fan-favorites like Self-Revives and Shockwaves. Those items have been game-changers in the past, letting players bounce back from tough spots or launch enemies into the air. It's the kind of addition that could really energize matches without overcomplicating things. Then, looking ahead to March, he confirmed the rollout of Chapter 7 Season 2, which sounds like it'll pack a bigger punch with fresh themes and features.
On top of that, Timmins talked about behind-the-scenes changes to make the game smoother. They've put together a new team focused on live operations, meeting every day to tackle bugs, stability issues, and quality-of-life improvements. "We have already taken steps to setup a multi-discipline live-ops strike team that are meeting daily, prioritising feedback, and taking actions to improve player experience and new Quality of life Updates."
