Korean Gaming company Nexon has been fined $8.9m by the Korea Fair Trade Commission for allegedly failing to disclose changes in the probability of obtaining in-game items in MapleStory. This marks the highest fine under the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce in South Korea. The commission claimed that Nexon decreased the likelihood of acquiring items called Cubes, which players pay approximately $1.50 to draw, without informing the players about this alteration. Officials stated "We imposed the largest fine because the Cube is a core product of MapleStory, the period of the violation is long and this is the second violation following Sudden Attack."
