League of Legends has announced the Nova Series, a new French esports competition designed to elevate women and other marginalised genders within the game’s competitive scene.
The inaugural tournament, Nova Series: Prélude, will run from November 8 to December 6 and feature a €10,000 (~£8,700) prize pool. The launch was accompanied by a powerful announcement video released on October 22, declaring:
“We have always been here. On the Rift. In every match. In every fight. Sometimes in silence… but always determined.”
The message continued,
“We have experienced defeat. We have grown hungry for victory. Carrying our teams. Shining in the shadows. Today, it is time to write our own history. A new era is beginning and it belongs to us.”
The creation of the Nova Series follows the debut of League of Legends Game Changers (LGC), Riot Games’ new competitive ecosystem for women, which mirrors the success of VALORANT’s Game Changers initiative. Officially unveiled in June after months of speculation, the LGC 2025 Rising Split is set to conclude on October 31 with a Grand Final showdown between Eterna and G2 HEL.
The Nova Series: Prélude will begin with two open qualifiers scheduled for November 8–9 and November 15–16. Each qualifier will feature 32 European teams competing through a seven-round Swiss Stage with best-of-one matches. The top four teams from each Swiss Stage will advance to the Playoffs, where best-of-three series will determine the final four main event contenders.
