Radical Forge, a games studio based in Middlesbrough, UK, has secured £2.6 million in funding to support its growth. The investment round was led by NPIF II – Mercia Equity Finance, managed by Mercia Ventures, as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II).
The studio plans to use the funds to expand its team by adding 15 new roles, take on larger contracts, and launch its own upcoming game, Southfield, early next year.
Founded in 2017 by Teesside University graduates Bruce Slater and Freddie Babord, Radical Forge develops its own games and recently launched a publishing division. Its debut release, the murder mystery puzzle Bright Paw, won Best Puzzle Game at the NYX Game Awards in 2020. The studio’s latest project, Southfield, is a farming simulator set on a fantasy island, where players can cultivate crops, experiment with machinery, and build their own homestead.
With a team of around 70 people, Radical Forge has already worked with some of the industry’s biggest names, contributing to well-known titles such as Gang Beasts, Sea of Thieves, Golf With Your Friends, and Zombie Army 4.
