ESL has announced a ban on the Snap Tap feature from its Counter-Strike 2 events, including the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 20. Snap Tap, also known as Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions (SOCD), allows players to gain an advantage while counter-strafing by registering only the most recent keystroke, even if other keys are still pressed.

This keyboard feature gives players an edge in stopping movement quickly, which enhances aiming accuracy. However, ESL's new policy will prohibit Snap Tap and similar assistants, such as Rappy Snappy, from use at in-person tournaments.

The organization has acknowledged that this may lead to inconsistencies in online play until appropriate detection and enforcement mechanisms are established.

Valve, the developer of Counter-Strike 2, had already banned Snap Tap from its official servers earlier this month, citing the prohibition of automation that circumvents core gameplay skills.
