Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish Issued Warning by Riot Games

Reports have emerged that Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish, a finalist at the 2024 VCT Champions, received a warning from Riot Games for violating its esports Global Code of Conduct by placing a bet on a title he is not competing in. On November 4, Team Heretics informed Riot that benjyfishy had placed a wager on the 2024 League of Legends World Championship final between Bilibili Gaming and T1, winning €100. While the amount was relatively small compared to the earnings of top esports players, it still constituted a violation of Article 3.15 of Riot's code, which prohibits players from betting on or engaging in gambling activities related to Riot games.

The rule stipulates that players cannot bet on any Riot games, even if they are not directly involved in that title's competition. As a result, a League player like benjyfishy cannot place a bet on a VALORANT event, and vice versa.

Following a full investigation, Riot determined that benjyfishy had been cooperative throughout the process and provided comprehensive information about his betting activity, which was exclusively related to League of Legends. This helped mitigate concerns over the integrity of VALORANT's competitive scene. Riot also noted that benjyfishy expressed “sincere remorse” for his actions, which was further demonstrated by his decision to donate a sum to charity.

As a consequence, benjyfishy received a formal warning, while Team Heretics was issued an undisclosed fine. Riot emphasized that any future violations of Article 3.15 could result in more severe penalties for the player.
