Wargaming has announced that it is pulling the plug on Steel Hunters, just over six months after its Early Access launch. The game, which went live on April 2, 2025, failed to gain a foothold with players, prompting the developer and publisher to cease further development and schedule a full shutdown of servers by early October.

Despite the studio’s longstanding reputation for live-service titles like World of Tanks, Steel Hunters struggled from the outset. The game’s peak concurrent player count, according to SteamDB, never climbed above 4,479 — a number it hit on launch day. Since then, interest has steadily declined, reflected in its current “Mixed” user review rating on Steam.

In an official statement, Wargaming addressed the difficult decision to halt development:

“While the community has given us so much passion and support… unfortunately we’ve come to the conclusion that continuing development is not sustainable.”

The company emphasized that Steel Hunters will remain playable until its servers are decommissioned in early October, giving the community one final stretch to enjoy the game before its farewell.

Wargaming also expressed heartfelt gratitude to its player base, especially those who were part of the game's early testing phases:

“We are immensely grateful for your time, feedback, memes, and the countless memorable battles we've shared,” the development team wrote. “From the very first days of Alpha, you've shaped Steel Hunters with your energy, creativity, and dedication. We’re honored to have had you on this journey. We couldn’t have wished for a better community, and we’ll miss you all dearly.”
