The Chongqing Olympic Sports Center was inaugurated in July 2004, with its first event being a friendly match between the national teams of China and Lebanon. It is situated within a vast sports complex. Shortly after its opening, in 2004, the stadium was selected as one of the four venues for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup, which China hosted.
