contentText[[Companies/Take-Two Interactive|Take-Two Interactive]] has announced its acquisition of [[Companies/Gearbox|Gearbox]], from [[Companies/Embracer Group|Embracer Group]] for a sum of $460m. The acquisition is slated to be finalized in June. Gearbox, operating across three offices in the US and Canada, is best known for its popular Borderlands series, which is published by Take-Two. The collaboration between Gearbox and Take-Two on the next Borderlands installment was already underway prior to the acquisition. With this acquisition, Take-Two will gain ownership of other prominent titles such as Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms, and Duke Nukem, in addition to future releases from Gearbox. According to Take-Two, Gearbox is currently developing six titles, including two Borderlands games, two Homeworld titles, and at least one new intellectual property. Following the acquisition, Gearbox will operate under Take-Two's 2K label, with its founder and CEO, Randy Pitchford, retaining leadership.
