In 2015 two friends (Tom and Josh) started searching for a competitive smash brothers scene in Newcastle, unfortunately they didn’t find what they were looking for so they started their own. They bought some equipment, set up in the back of a golf driving range and started hosting tournaments. Within a year it had grown from them and a few friends, to an active community base of over 100 players, but with limited space, bandwidth and opportunity in the shed it was quickly outgrown. In 2017 they opened up Newcastle’s premier esports facility ‘GVP esports club’ catering to competitive PC and console gamers throughout the region.
