According to recent news, Olympic Esports Commission has developed a proposal for creating "Olympic Esports Games." During the IOC Executive Board meeting, it was emphasized that this initiative requires a new dedicated structure within the IOC, distinct from the Olympic Games' organizational and financial framework. The Executive Board revealed it is in advanced talks with a potential host for the Esports Games, and an announcement is anticipated once formalities are completed.

The release states that the IOC first interacted with the esports community by organizing the Esports Forum in 2018 in Lausanne. They then established the Esports Liaison Group to engage with stakeholders, which later became the IOC Esports Commission chaired by IOC Member David Lappartient. In 2021, the IOC launched the Olympic Virtual Series, their initial foray into esports.
Afterwards we have seen The Olympic Esports Week. More than 130 players worldwide participated, showcasing their talents in 10 mixed-gender category events.
IOC President Thomas Bach stated “With the creation of Olympic Esports Games, the IOC is taking a major step forward and is keeping up with the pace of the digital revolution. We are very excited how enthusiastically the esports community represented in our Esports Commission has engaged with this initiative. This is further proof of the attractivity of the Olympic brand and the values it stands for,”
