Apex Just Made Purple Loot Rare Again, and That Changes Everything

Apex Legends Season 30, "Marked," went live on August 4 at 5PM UTC, and on paper it looks light. No new Legend (the next one isn't expected until Season 32), no new weapon, no new map. Look at what's actually inside it, though, and this is one of the most consequential patches Respawn has shipped in ages, because it takes a wrecking ball to the loot economy that's defined Apex for years. Gold attachments are gone. Purple spawn rates are slashed. Hot Zones have been deleted. The whole "land, hoover up a fully kitted gun in ninety seconds, coast" rhythm has been deliberately dismantled. Add a full Bloodhound rework, a genuinely radical energy ammo overhaul, and a brand new attachment category built on tradeoffs, and there's more to relearn here than in most seasons that ship a new character.
Here's everything, organised by what actually matters.

The Loot Overhaul Is the Real Headline
Respawn's stated problem was loot inflation, that finding great gear had become too easy and progression felt like a spike at the start of a match followed by nothing. The fix is aggressive.
Gold tier is being gutted:
- Gold attachments removed from the loot pool entirely
- Gold attachments removed from gold weapons
- Gold backpacks removed from the loot pool
- Gold and Mythic bins removed from Bin Reset
- Gold loot removed from Flyer and Prowler deathboxes, and from loot rollers
- The 4-10x Threat Sight is unaffected
Everything else got squeezed too:
Purple attachment spawn rate reduced across all systems (though total attachment quantity is unchanged) Hot Zones removed Bin Reset no longer upgrades loot to a higher tier Upgrade panels now cap at purple, upgrading one slot by one tier and providing an optic if missing Extended Supply Bins and Weapon Supply Bins removed Loot rollers spawn fewer attachments and can now cycle white-tier loot Loot ticks spawn fewer attachments and weapons, more consumables MRVNs cut from 24 to 12 spawns, now single-use, no more arm drops Wildlife (Prowlers and Spiders) no longer drop attachments at all, just healing and ammo
Arsenals are now time-locked, disabled at match start and activating alongside EVO Harvesters, with icons hidden until then and fewer per POI. Respawn's reasoning is that Arsenals were dragging players into hot-drop contests in open ground, so early fights are now supplied purely by what you scavenge.
The practical upshot is that finding a purple attachment should feel like an actual event again rather than a formality, and squads will more often commit to imperfect loadouts instead of endlessly upgrading.
Corrupted Attachments: Power With a Catch
The genuinely fresh mechanic. Corrupted Attachments are a new high-tier rarity, each pairing a strong buff with a real drawback, and you can only run one per weapon.
Overflowing Magazine: bigger mag than purple, slower reload. Fits anything that takes a magazine Headseeker Barrel: more headshot damage, worse hipfire accuracy, purple-level recoil Tactical Laser: faster reload, worse ADS recoil control, purple-level hipfire accuracy Agile Standard Stock: removes the weapon move speed penalty and boosts ADS move speed, at the cost of magazine size Rapid Sniper Stock: higher rate of fire, smaller magazine
Find them in the core loot pool at low rates, in round 2 and 3 care packages, and at high-tier locations like World's Edge vaults and the Icarus bridge.
Energy Weapons Don't Use Ammo Anymore
This is the boldest swing in the patch. Energy ammo has been removed from the game as a lootable item entirely. Energy weapons now carry their own regenerating stockpile, similar to the Bocek.
Stockpile sizes:
- Havoc, Nemesis, Devotion: 3 magazines
- L-STAR: 4 magazines
- RE-45, Volt, Triple Take: 2 magazines
Regeneration runs at one magazine's worth per 18 seconds, and crucially that timer doesn't scale with magazine size, so a Volt with a purple mag regenerates 27 shots in the same 18 seconds a base Volt takes to regenerate 20. Regen pauses while shooting or reloading. A new HUD element shows remaining magazines, displayed as a percentage by default with a setting to switch to bullet count. In Wildcard, energy weapons get an extra magazine of stockpile and regenerate in 12 seconds.
The design intent is clear: energy weapons become excellent in short bursts and weaker in drawn-out fights, and you free up inventory Space in exchange for that ceiling.
Bloodhound Is Essentially a New Legend
Respawn admitted Bloodhound has the lowest pick rate at Gold and above, and the rework is thorough.
Passive:
- Red trails now guide you toward fresh enemy clues
- Clue types trimmed to just traversal and eliminations to cut visual clutter
- Trails and clues hide when the owner dies (except Player Killed)
- Black raven spawn reliability improved
- White ravens now fly up to 400m (was 190m base, 380m with Raven's Flight) and can be activated remotely by looking at them
Tactical:
- Full-body scan extended to 3 seconds (previously 2 seconds full-body plus 2 seconds diamond)
- Followed by 4 snapshot scans, 1.5s apart
- Cooldown no longer partially refunds if a scan hits a white raven and at least one enemy; still fully refunds if it hits a raven and no enemies
New Ultimate, Allfather's Cloak:
- Deployable device that cloaks anyone within range
- Cloaked players get 20% movement speed and threat vision
- Cloaking area lasts 8 seconds; cloak persists 12 seconds after leaving
- Breaks on taking damage, firing, or using most abilities
- Bloodhound's own abilities don't break it
New upgrades: Hidden Sight and Bird's Eye at level 2, True Predator at level 3 (shooting interrupts rather than breaks cloak). Taste of Blood is gone, with Raven's Flight buffed into the base kit.
Other Legend Changes
Loba (buffed): tactical equip time down to 0.4s from 0.6s, roughly 15% more range and 30% faster travel, ultimate cooldown down to 120s from 150s. Brand New Bag now grants purple bags since gold ones no longer exist.
Rampart (buffed): locked hop-up progress gained 50% faster, wall health at lower EVO levels raised to 600/700/800, amped wall health up 25, deployment 0.5s faster, and Sheila's base move speed jumps from 70 to 104. Combat Reserve swaps red weapon access for stowed reloads.
Valkyrie (nerfed): tactical base damage cut from 25 to 15, missile attack angles adjusted so they no longer dive over tall cover, ultimate base height down 15%. Eye In the Sky through-wall scan cut to 100m, Supersonic launch reduction down to 40% from 50%.
Axle (nerfed): max slide boost cut from 5 seconds to 3, and her ultimate now affects herself and allies, damaging and stunning Axle while stunning and displacing teammates. Automata replaced with Long Haul, which restores the 5-second slide.
Seer (nerfed): turn slow reduced, plus the earlier July hotfix moving Home Base to level 3 and Energizing Focus to level 2, preventing players from stacking both.
Weapons and Hop-Ups
G7 Scout returns to floor loot, significantly toned down: Double Tap removed, can no longer equip sniper optics, damage down to 33 from 37, slower rate of fire, and magazine sizes cut across white (12), blue (14), and purple (16).
30-30 Repeater moves to care packages, buffed hard: damage up to 51 from 43, ADS charge time down to 0.25s, faster reload, Dual Shell swapped for Shattercaps (7 pellets, 8 damage each, 56 total, headshots at 1.25x), stockpile of 50.
Nerfed: Hemlok (breach charge cooldown up to 30s, 50% less damage to Hardlight and structures, damage down to 21), Alternator (18 damage, mags cut across the board), RE-45 (16 damage, purple mag down to 24), R-99 (12 damage).
Hop-ups: gold weapons now come with Accelerator if they lack a hop-up, and Accelerator itself is reworked to give 15% ult charge on knock plus 30% extra EVO from damage, no longer giving ult charge from damage. Turbocharger now needs 500 points on the Devotion, up from 425. Gold weapon rotation is removed entirely.
World's Edge, Rebuilt
The map gets a nighttime Aurora-lit makeover tied to Bloodhound's tribe, with three new POIs and returning fan favourites.
- East Village replaces Climatizer with Bloodhound's tribe architecture and a Longhouse, plus extra rock and tree cover, gentler Dam terrain, and new ziplines
- Tree Settlement replaces The Tree with vertical movement gameplay
- War Camp replaces Survey Camp as a tight arena showdown
- Sorting Factory returns, with a central train tunnel connection, preserved Lava Siphon bridge to Fragment East, a new southwest tunnel and vertical zipline, and extra platforms and train cars
- Construction stacks restored at Fragment West to spread combat out
- Big Maude merged into Landslide, with the original pre-Maude camp restored and extra cover, platforms, and buildings for better rotations
- Countdown vault loot improved, Harvester rooftop collision fixed, plus a large sweep of bugs and rat spots
World's Edge is the only map in Ranked and Pubs for the first 24 hours from August 4, then returns for a 48-hour Ranked stint over August 8-9 before normal rotation resumes alongside Storm Point and E-District.
Quality of Life
UI stat overhaul: a new Playground tab under Legend Locker > Weapons lets you preview weapons and see exactly how attachments alter stats. In-world loot cards now show detailed damage, ideal range, rate of fire, and firing modes, plus a direct comparison when swapping, and attachment cards show the stat change before you equip. Both can be disabled by switching Interact Prompt Style to Compact.
Volunteer Jumpmaster: you can now opt in to being Jumpmaster during Character Select, with the choice persisting across matches and a random pick if multiple teammates volunteer.
Ranked ladders extended to 5 days, running August 11-16, 18-23, 25-30, September 1-6, and 8-13.
Bug fixes cover ranked auras, favourite skin inconsistencies, an Alter Portal box exploit on Caustic Treatment, reversed text on Skippy's Mythic Alternator skin for Switch 2 users, Caustic's skydive animation, Vantage's ultimate damage multiplier, and Crypto's drone being unable to use mobile respawn beacons. Rat spots and Alter/Loba exploit locations were cleaned up across World's Edge, Olympus, Storm Point, and E-District.
One Quiet Detail Worth Noting
Buried in the battle pass is the Purrfect Pals weapon charm on the free track, featuring two cats named Tia and Sophia. It was made to honour former Respawn developer Benjamin Sklar, who died last year, and was inspired by his beloved pets. It's a small, genuinely lovely gesture in a patch otherwise full of numbers, and worth grabbing on the way through.
