Casey Hudson, former general manager of BioWare and director of the beloved Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), is leading a new game studio called Arcanaut Studios to develop a new Star Wars title, Fate of the Old Republic. The Canadian studio, founded in July 2025, aims to deliver an ambitious new chapter in the Star Wars universe.
Hudson, who has a deep legacy in the Star Wars franchise, is joined by a skilled team including Chris Bain as CFO, Cordy Rierson as COO, and Ryan Hoyle as CTO. The announcement of Fate of the Old Republic was made during The Game Awards last week, sparking excitement among fans of the classic KOTOR games.
"When we developed the original KOTOR, we wanted to create a definitive Star Wars experience—crafting an adventure that consisted of all the things we dreamed of doing as Star Wars fans," Hudson said. "Now, 25 years after we started work on that game, our aspirations are equally ambitious."
Fate of the Old Republic will leverage state-of-the-art technology and innovative game design, with an all-new story that aims to deliver the player agency and immersion that defined KOTOR. Hudson emphasized that the game will offer a fresh vision for Star Wars, expanding the universe while staying true to what made the original KOTOR a standout title.
