Battlefield Studios has confirmed that Season 4: Naval Warfare drops on July 21, 2026, bringing the series' first full commitment to large-scale combat fought across land, sea, and air. The announcement landed alongside a gameplay trailer offering the first proper look at what the update delivers, and it's the most ambitious content drop since the game launched.

Tsuru Reef, the Biggest Map Yet

The season's centrepiece is Tsuru Reef, a brand-new map set off the coast of southern Japan and built from the ground up around naval combat. Battlefield Studios is billing it as the largest battlefield in the game to date, which is a notable claim given Season 3's Railway to Golmud was itself already vast, reportedly nearly four times the size of Mirak Valley.

The map spans miles of coastline, sprawling islands, open water, and beaches suited to amphibious landings, with separate combat areas connected by sea travel. Boats, jets, helicopters, armour, and infantry all converge in the same Space, with the trailer showing naval gunboats shelling land targets while troops fight through a resort hotel and dogfights play out overhead. Veterans may notice that hotel structure bears a strong resemblance to Battlefield 4's Hainan Resort.

The standout new mechanic is the dynamic wave system. Ocean conditions actively disrupt aiming stability and can mask player movement, meaning the sea itself becomes a tactical factor rather than a flat backdrop. The trailer opens with players speeding across open water on boats while dodging underwater mines, giving a sense of how much traversal matters here.

New Vehicles and Weapons

Two naval vehicles have been confirmed so far. The RCB-90 Patrol Boat is the larger armed vessel designed to dominate the coastline, while the 7.7-metre NSW RHIB is a smaller, faster craft built for racing through the surf between objectives. A homing torpedo attack was also teased.

Four new weapons arrive with the season, including the Interdictor long-range sniper rifle. The remaining three haven't been officially detailed, though dataminers have pointed to the EF88 assault rifle, BREN 3 carbine, and VSSM DMR, all of which surfaced in June's Battlefield Labs playtest. Treat those as unconfirmed for now.

Wake Island Returns, But Not on Day One

The trailer's closing focus was Wake Island, the franchise's most iconic map, returning for what marks roughly its eleventh appearance dating back to Battlefield 1942. It's been rebuilt for Battlefield 6's scale, systems, and modern setting, with the trailer showing ships firing mortar cannons and the destruction they inflict.

One important caveat the announcement soft-pedals: Wake Island isn't arriving on July 21. It's slated for later in the season, with no specific date confirmed yet, so Tsuru Reef carries the launch on its own. That fits the studio's pattern of splitting seasonal content across staggered phases rather than a single drop.

Beyond the Maps

Season 4 also brings a new Ranked Battle Royale season to REDSEC with a fresh set of rewards, following ranked matchmaking's earlier addition to the mode. The season is expected to reintroduce spectator mode as well, though persistent server browsers and Custom lobbies are reportedly held back for Season 5.

The battle pass is available to pre-order now, with bonuses attached for anyone buying before launch. Season 4: Naval Warfare goes live July 21 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XS, and PC.
