Bulkhead CEO spoke about the most recent controversy.
"A lot of people who may have an issue with crunch, rightly so, I understand that issue, we always try and avoid it, but we don't hide that this is going to happen at some point, they often don't make it in the door," Brammer said. "We want to be known for that: this is a place you come to work hard. If you care about the work you're making and the result of what you make here, you'll feel really valued. If you don't, you will feel slave-driven."
"We check people's socials, and if you're constantly tweeting anti-crunch messaging, 'This should never ever be a thing', we know that and go, 'Look, you're not going to be happy here, so we're not going to go with you.'"
And: "They know I expect people to crunch. I own that. I don't try and hide it."
Brammer stated and declining "to get into a public debate about this, or any other of these out of context articles," then listing what he called the facts.
"No information says mandatory, they made this up. 80% of the shares in Bulkhead are owned by 50% of the staff. For 50% of the development we ran a 4 DAY WORK WEEK. We gave everyone the entire month of December off. We made a game you like and our staff will be rewarded for it accordingly."
Brammer stated "We're not transparent, and we're not honest." His framing was that owning the position publicly was the strategy, without claiming it as transparency.
On the final stretch: "For the last three months, Wardogs has been more important than a lot of [our team's] family lives."
On the financial side, an undisclosed number of staff hold shares and receive bonuses "If we're going to be a company who says, 'we do crunch,' then we have to also say, 'but you get something for it.' We want people to know that those people who do work hard get that return, and it is life-changing." He mentioned juniors of two or three years potentially affording a house deposit.
Context for the issue, in December 2025 Brammer told the 100-person team they faced redundancy and advised anyone with an offer to take it. Bulkhead has made redundancies every year for several years. Wardogs saved the studio.
On launch day he posted a studio tour showing a room of air mattresses for staff working overnight on the servers.
