Activision has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 during the Xbox Games Showcase, marking a historic first for the franchise with back-to-back Black Ops releases. Following the launch of Black Ops 6 in 2024, the next installment in the popular subseries is set to arrive sooner than usual—continuing a narrative arc that jumps decades into the future.
Developed by long-time collaborators Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 7 is set in the year 2035—more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6 and a decade after Black Ops 2. The story promises to push the boundaries of the franchise's signature mind-bending storytelling. According to Activision, this will be the “most mind-bending” campaign in Call of Duty history.
The premise sees the world teetering on the edge of collapse, driven by escalating violence and psychological warfare. Fan-favorite character David Mason returns, leading a team against a “manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.” Players will be able to wield “cutting-edge technology” throughout the campaign.
Black Ops 7 will feature both a traditional single-player campaign and a co-op mode, alongside the series' staple multiplayer offerings. Notably, round-based Zombies mode will also return, a fan-favorite feature from earlier titles.
While only a cinematic teaser has been released so far, Activision plans to share more updates in the coming weeks. Tyler Bahl, head of Activision Publishing, commented on the rollout strategy: “We’re excited to give players a bit more time to enjoy all the live seasons and provide players more of what they want across Black Ops 6 and Warzone before we turn the page to Black Ops 7.”
