In a notable decision that separates competitive participation from public endorsement, Evil Geniuses (EG) has announced that its VALORANT team will compete in the Esports World Cup (EWC), while the organization itself will abstain from any promotional or social media coverage of the event.
The announcement came via a statement posted to EG’s official X account, where the organization emphasized that its support for the team would remain strictly competitive. "EG social channels will not be covering, mentioning, or giving updates on EWC-related matches or content and will re-evaluate this approach based on the competitive outcomes of Phase 2," the statement read.
Despite their silence on digital platforms, EG has opted to allow its roster to participate in the EWC Americas Qualifier, recognizing the event as a valuable opportunity for high-level competition. Following a fourth-place finish in Stage 1 of the VCT Americas 2025, EG automatically secured a spot in the ongoing qualifier, which wraps up on May 25th.
The team is set to face off against 100 Thieves today in a decisive match for one of two coveted slots in the main EWC VALORANT tournament, which boasts a prize pool of $1.25m.
EG clarified that its decision to participate was driven by a competitive necessity, citing the limited availability of top-tier events in the VALORANT ecosystem. “We encourage fans who want to follow our team’s EWC journey to individually support our players and coaches, who’ve worked hard to continue to compete at this level,” the organization added.
Interestingly, Evil Geniuses is not listed among the 40 esports organizations currently partnered with the Esports World Cup Foundation’s Club Partner Program, potentially shedding light on the reasoning behind the organization’s muted public stance.
