FIFA announced a new partnership with Rocket League. According to a press release, the first-ever FIFAe World Cup featuring Rocket League is scheduled to take place this year, with invitations extended to sixteen nations.

The tournament will see each nation fielding three players and one substitute, chosen based on their participation in previous Rocket League Majors. Member associations have the option to organize qualifying tournaments to determine their national representatives for this historic event.

This is the first venture of FIFA since the split with Electronic Arts. EA Sports, Electronic Arts (EA), brought an unexpected end to its 30-year partnership with FIFA, the governing body of global soccer. This decision marked FIFA 23 as the final installment under their longstanding licensing agreement that began back in 1993. The conclusion of this partnership was surprising given the immense success of the game, which reportedly generated around $20b in revenue.

Christian Volk, Director eFootball and Gaming at FIFA , stated “The FIFAe World Cup featuring Rocket League marks a new era for FIFAe, providing a groundbreaking platform for FIFA’s member assocations to compete on one of the most relevant esports titles. This milestone partnership highlights our commitment to evolve our football esports ecosystem and continue to build the biggest stages for all communities to fame their game.”
