Former staff from Annapurna Interactive have reportedly established a new company and acquired the portfolio of indie game label Private Division. The acquisition includes popular franchises such as Kerbal Space Program and distribution rights for upcoming titles like Game Freak’s unannounced project and the Lord of the Rings farming game, Tales of the Shire, set to launch in March.
The portfolio was previously owned by Haveli Investments, an Austin-based private equity firm that purchased Private Division from Take-Two Interactive late last year. As part of the acquisition, layoffs are expected among the roughly 20 Private Division staff members who joined Haveli, though the exact number of impacted employees remains unclear.

This development follows significant upheaval at Annapurna Interactive, where the majority of the team resigned in September after talks with its parent company broke down. During negotiations, staff discovered that Hector Sanchez, co-founder of Annapurna Interactive, had been “quietly rehired” as president of interactive and new media by Megan Ellison, CEO of Annapurna Pictures. Sanchez was reportedly working on gaming projects without informing the Interactive team, creating confusion and frustration over the company’s direction.
