Court issued the remedies ruling on 21 October. The game returned to iOS the next day.

The ruling stated that Apple held a “substantial degree of power in the iOS app distribution services market and iOS in-app payment solutions market,” and foreclosed rival channels for iOS distribution.

Tim Sweeney stated it as a “a huge victory for consumers and developers.”

What actually changes, and when

Fortnite’s return is immediate, The Epic Games Store will follow later.

Some of the highlights are,

Users can download apps from developers driractly Developers can offer alternative payment methods, without aPPLE requiring its in-app purchase system or imposing additional fees Apple can not block developers from directing customers to third-party stores for purchases Apple can not charge additional fees on purchases made through third-party stores

Apple must also pay Epic’s legal costs from the liability trial.

A spokesperson said it would “request a stay and appeal the outcome to seek a resolution that respects our intellectual property and protects the safe, secure experience that consumers and developers expect from the App Store.”

What Epic lost

According to reports, court declined to extend remedies beyond Australia, which Epic had requested. It rejected Epic’s unconscionable conduct claims. And it imposed no rate setting.

So Australian users get an opened platform. Everyone else gets a precedent and nothing more.

Six years

Apple removed Fortnite in August 2020 after Epic deliberately bypassed platform fees. Epic sued in Australia in November 2020, and filed against Google in March 2021.

The Federal Court ruled in August 2025 that both companies had misused market power. This week’s decision was the remedies phase of that finding.

Fortnite returned to iOS in the EU in September 2024, and in the US in May 2026 after a district court ruled Apple couldn’t collect fees on purchases made outside the App Store. Australia was excluded from that global return because the case here was only partially won, with the game still blocked over what Epic described as an illegal payment arrangement.
